Nikon has a whole slew of DSLR cameras, and the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera is the cheapest one of them all. With the D40, Nikon is hoping to attract first-time DSLR users who might not be so sure about this whole digital thing. After all, traditional photography with film still holds a certain allure.

But don't let the word “cheap” fool you. While it is cheaper than the other DSLR cameras offered by Nikon, “economical” is more the correct term. This camera has a lot of great features that borrow directly from its more expensive counterparts. It's whopping 6-megapixels (perfect for capturing large photos in high-res, suitable for publication or blow-ups as high as 13 by 9) come from the Nikon D50 Digital SLR Camera. Its 3D Color Matrix Metering II is from the Nikon D80 DSLR Camera. Even its processor is borrowed, straight from the Nikon D200. The one thing it doesn't borrow from other cameras is its lenses; but don't worry, you can buy new f/3.5-to-f/5.6G, 18mm-to-55mm II ED AF-S DX lens with the camera, making the transition easy if you already have a “traditional,” non-digital camera.

The camera turns on very quickly, which is counterbalanced by an unfortunate lag in shutter speed which might bother some photographers.

I like the 2.5-inch LCD on the back of the camera. The colors are bright and strong enough to look at in the sunlight, a common concern when it comes to the readability of screens outdoors. Its button-system is similar to its consumer-models, which, unfortunately, makes for a long and inconvenient navigation process.

One of the biggest questions is about the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera. Does it measure up to the other cameras, despite being the low-end model? A resounding Yes. Colors are vibrant, focus is sharp, digital noise is barely there, and the overall image is beautiful. Its sensitivity ranges from ISO 1600 to 200. Focus is rather narrow, but that is something that you can't get unless you move up to a higher-end model.

Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Pricing

The can be bought at professional photography stores, as well as electronic stores like Best Buy. Prices begin at about $500, which is the best deal on online retailer Amazon.com. This price included 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. Other packages ranged as high as $800.

Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Bundled Software

Unfortunately, the software that comes with the camera is nothing substantial. Unless you have photo software on your computer such as Apple's Aperture (one of the best programs for professional photographers) or Adobe's new Lightroom software (an excellent program that can handle raw images), you might want to pay the extra $150 for Nikon's professional photography software.

Conclusion: Is the Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR worth it?

The Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera gives you a lot of features packed into an economical package. In the next revision of the camera, Nikon can boost the megapixels (its other cameras have a higher megapixel) and increase its shutter speed. In general, this camera should please newcomers to the DSLR realm, as well as hobby photographers who are on a budget and want a quality digital camera. Nikon has delivered an excellent product.
WHERE TO BUY:

Amazon.com has, by far, the best deal.

Olympus SP-800UZ Leaked

Ubergizmo 16 hours ago

With PMA just around the corner, leaks of various cameras are starting to show up on the Internet. First off we’ve got black and white pictures of what should be the SP-800UZ from Olympus, which will boast a mouth-watering 30x optical zoom, 14-megapixel sensor and image stabilization. Fujifilm should be getting in on the fun too, with a bunch of cameras. One of the more interesting cameras will certainly be the Hasselblad H4D, which will sport a 50-60 megapixel count. You might not be into medium format cameras, but if you’re looking for something along the lines of the usual consumer camera, a 30x zoom is certainly enough reason to at least check out the offering from Olympus. Sony H20 VS Olympus U9000 portable telephoto Competition
Currently on the market for everyone to bring the most telephoto portable hot spots – the Sony H20 and the Olympus μ9000 contrast evaluation. Portable telephoto This concept has been proposed in 2007, compared to conventional telephoto DC, while retaining a large portable telephoto zoom ratio lens, omitting some advanced manual functions, but in exchange for smaller body size of the advantage.
Relatively early stage of small portable telephoto rational models of light R series, the Pentax Z10, Samsung NV7, etc., but these models are not caused by the introduction of too much consumer concern, for many reasons, such as publicity promotion, brand and other factors. Really aroused the concept of consumer concern is that in 07 year-end, early in 2008 Canon, Sony, Panasonic launch portable telephoto give it wide publicity, in the subsequent development, portable telephoto has been one of the highlights for each new release . The current three main characters made two pictures of the Sony H20 and the Olympus μ9000 is 10 times the light changed in 2009 portable telephoto strong market competitor, whether it is size, performance, and film properties of the lens, both of which have good representation. Now I will be a simple and intuitive way of contrast, from a different angle compared the performance of these two machines.
Olympus μ9000 Sony H20
Sensor 1/2.33 inch, 12 million-pixel CCD 1/2.3 inch, 10.1 million-pixel Super HAD CCD
Lens focal length 10x optical zoom 28-280mm 10 optical zoom 38-380mm
Macro 1cm Super Macro 2cm
Features selling points iAUTO intelligent mode, beauty model, a perfect preview iAUTO intelligent mode, smile shutter, HD video, M-speed manual exposure
2.7-inch screen, the 3rd generation super-crystal liquid crystal display, about 23 million pixels 3.0-inch 230,000-pixel
Storage media xD / microSD card MS card (Memory Stick)
Size 96 × 60 × 31mm 107.3 × 68.7 × 47.1mm
Sony H20 digital camera and Olympus U9000 Digital camera happens to be two kinds of representatives of different styles of portable telephoto, H20 shooting performance in order to highlight the main iAUTO equipped with a new automatic mode, but also retained the M-speed manual exposure features and add HD video; while Olympus U9000 Digital Camera Zeyi with a broader range of applications 28mm wide-angle lens, superior body size, and adding a number of features that consumers will be able to shoot a simple operation of the excellent photos .
Contrast 1: appearance, portability
H20 fuselage volume of 107.3 × 68.7 × 47.1mm, weight 250g, retained the overall shape of the style of H10, but the improved handle design, but also in the back of the mother means the contact area was designed anti-slip mat, so that the operators feel better, easy one-hand operation. However, because of the camera tube design giant, but also prominent in the fuselage, so in terms of portability play a certain discount.
The μ9000 body size compared with H20 in a great advantage because of its body size of only 96 × 60 × 31mm, weight of only 185g, and the card, there was no significant difference between the. But the camera body is not well designed anti-slip section, only a slight prominence at the edge of metal edges, so there would be one-handed operation of the camera a certain degree of inconvenience, holding machine way or in better hands. In fact, μ9000 appearance with our common home card machine is no different, just like in appearance, can easily be placed into the pockets of clothes,
Olympus U9000 Digital camera exterior design to be more exquisite than the Sony H20, cameras and an ordinary card when you compare, you can clearly reflected in the appearance μ9000 advantages. In contrast to the thickness of the fuselage which, through the 1 yuan coins can also be intuitive understanding of the thickness difference of two machines, digital cameras, Olympus U9000 is still ahead of H20.
Contrast 2: handling race
Control of the camera is user-friendly, it will directly affect the user’s experience, a simple and convenient mode of operation will be to win consumers more recognition. Contrast in this respect, we will focus on comparing the Sony H20 digital cameras and Olympus U9000 digital cameras whether the manipulation of humanity, and to reflect both the manipulation on the number of deficiencies.
1, zoom control
As a telephoto camera, in daily use have been changing the focal length film is certainly unavoidable, so the zoom control feel is the more important aspect of Sony H20 of the zoom lever to toggle type, for you are familiar with the shutter a replacement design, operation handle very comfortable, and moderate damping, the user can provide a more accurate transform lens focal length.
Sony H20 digital camera compared to a comfortable feel, Olympus U9000 Digital camera zoom lever design of fuselage the size is limited only placed in a very limited space, so the camera’s zoom lever to become very “refinement” , so that the direct expense of the operation handle, and zoom lever of the key processes very short too sensitive, leading to the user when the operation μ9000 zoom inconvenience.
2, shortcut keys set
Shortcut key advantage is that you can quickly set up the corresponding function, the Sony H20 digital camera is designed only to “smile shutter” shortcut keys in standby mode press the key that can activate smile shutter function, the operation is extremely simple. Smile shutter function, but the utilization rate does not seem too high.
Olympus μ9000 also set a single shortcut keys “OR”, as long as the standby mode OR press the button, you can enter the camera feature to switch interface, the camera respectively the “Panorama” “shadow adjustment” and “perfect preview “These three features.
Contrast 3: Imaging Competition
After another round of PK, we should in our text in these two main characters from the appearance and handling performance have a certain understanding of how the! But for a digital camera, the imaging results is top priority, so we also prepared a large number of proofs contrast, so that massive numbers of visitors a better understanding of the Sony H20 and the Olympus μ9000 imaging features. Well, here enters the imaging PK links:
1, wide-angle & telephoto Comparison
Both the camera lens focal length there are still some differences, Sony H20 digital camera lens focal length equivalent 38-380mm, while the Olympus μ9000 equivalent lens focal length 28-280mm, a 28mm wide-angle side with the advantages of , while the other will have a 380mm telephoto side edge, the following look at their respective wide-angle and telephoto end of the next imaging contrast
Sony H20 at the telephoto end can be far under the text on the billboards clearly restored, but under the wide-angle side is missing a lot of interest. By comparison, the Olympus digital camera 28mm wide-angle U9000 advantage of the immediate impact to be demonstrated, although slightly inferior under the telephoto end of H20, but I think with a 28mm wide-angle lens available to a wider shooting range , an advantage that would be more than the looks farther advantage.
2, Backlight Competition
Under normal circumstances we should try to avoid shooting in the backlighting, but the reality of the use of the environment, I would inevitably have to face the backlighting scene. In the backlighting environment, the camera’s lens imaging defects exposed exhaustive.
Olympus digital cameras in the backlighting of the U9000 treatment ideal, high-contrast edges are not as noticeable purple fringe, but the dispersion control, there is still some room for improvement. Sony H20 in the backlighting, the edge will have a clear purple fringe and dispersion problems, for the camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, the performance was disappointing. In contrast tolerance test, I chose to use the back of leaves and the sky for comparing the overall performance of the Sony H20 to be more excellent, more natural light-dark transition. However, Olympus μ9000 higher color saturation.
My PK Conclusion: By comparing the evaluation, I am sure the article in the two main characters in the Sony H20 and the Olympus μ9000 already have more in-depth understanding of control performance and proofs from the shoot, both machines have demonstrated the advantages and disadvantages. Olympus compact body μ9000 Zeyi to break away from the camera body size portable telephoto side bottlenecks, and to join a more broad range of shooting 28mm wide-angle lens and Intelligent Scene iAUTO and useful features such as a perfect preview. Another article in the Sony H20 is a hero-oriented manipulation of the camera and filming the performance, so compared to some of its wide-bodied are also necessary and in accordance with comfortable manipulation of the original side-slip rubber handle and the machine back show that the positioning of H20. H20 in the telephoto end of the next more advantages, 380mm of telephoto end for Uchitori is very convenient. Focus on control of the H20 and practicality in supporting the iAUTO Intelligent Scene Recognition and smile shutter and some other automatic features the same time, a more controlled exposure of the M-speed manual is also supported.
Both have their own advantages and disadvantages on the imaging camera, Olympus μ9000 color though biased in favor of plain style, but the purple fringe of control but have a good performance, and the 28mm wide-angle lens when shooting landscape photos of much help . Sony H20 digital camera is not 28mm wide-angle end, but the 380mm telephoto end of the lens, the more the feeling of the telescope. In the metering, focus and control noise so you can see the advantages of H20, but in high-contrast, under the purple fringe of serious problems is very troubled people.
Applicable to the crowd:
Sony H20 and Olympus U9000 digital camera market positioning of both the problem. Sony H20 in order to control the performance and features as a selling point stressed portable manual telephoto digital camera, so it is ideal for those who want the camera light enough, they also require a certain degree of manual exposure cameras ability to home users. The Olympus U9000 Digital Camera Our body has been designed from its position that it can be seen, lightweight body like the card machines, you can easily be placed T-shirt, pants pockets into. In function, the camera is even based on automated, intelligent-based, and does not support manual exposure, it is a very suitable for women μ9000 users of portable telephoto cameras. Do not forget, and Olympus U9000 Digital camera lens on the edge, because it is equipped with a 28mm wide-angle lens, so it’s shooting space is relatively larger.

Digital SLR cameras are all the rage these days. With price tags going up into several thousand dollars, all the way down to around $500, it’s hard to know what an average user needs. Well to start with, an average consumer, or even a serious amateur photographer, can do just fine with a lower end model, and there are several to choose from under $1000. Let’s look at a few of the best models, all have an average retail price under $1000.

Canon Rebel XT
These digital Rebels are all the rage, and they are easily the most popular choice among amateur photographers and general consumers. The Rebel XT has an 8 mega pixel sensor, which will easily allow extra large prints, up to 16×22 inches for a film quality print. The price on this model has just recently dropped, and it is now available for just around $790 with a lens. This camera sports an ultra fast processor, which can shoot up to three frames per second. This auto focus camera sports a lighter battery than its predecessor, the Digital Rebel “classic”, and better color recognition, as well as a faster start up time of just .2 seconds. This is a great camera for beginners, serious amateurs, and moms alike.

Nikon D50
This camera is a steal at around $900 with TWO lenses (yes that’s right, not one, but TWO lenses). If you want to spend a little less, you can get the D50 with just one lens, for around $600. The Nikon D50 is a perfect choice for beginners to the D-SLR world, and even for those who have never used any kind of SLR camera. With a 6.1 mega pixel sensor, users can print up to 14×19 inches in film quality. Shooting up to 2.5 frames per second, this camera is plenty fast. What makes this camera so wonderful for beginners is that it features seven scene modes, unlike many D-SLR cameras that have few, or none at all. The scene modes on this camera include a new “Child” mode, which optimizes color for bright, vivid, true to life prints without any editing.

Sony Alpha a100
The latest D-SLR to burst onto the scene is Sony’s Alpha a100K. This camera sports one of the highest resolutions available for under $1000, with a whopping 10.2 mega pixels. Sony recently acquired Konica Minolta’s lens mount design, so this camera is compatible with Minolta lenses, which means that accessories and additional lenses are widely available. With an eye-start auto focus system, as well as a 9 point auto focus, and a 40 segment multi pattern honeycomb metering design, this camera is a digital photography powerhouse, rivaling cameras that cost well over $2000, at just $999 with one lens. Though it is the most expensive in the list, this is surely the only camera you will ever need.

Pentax *istDL
At just around $530, this is one of the least expensive D-SLR cameras on the market today. The Pentax *istDL features a 6.1 mega pixel sensor, which is adequate for prints up to 14×19 inches. This camera uses Secure Digital type cards, which are fairly inexpensive. It features a 16 segment multi-pattern metering system, a generous 2.5 inch LCD display, and sports a compact, yet sturdy stainless steel body. It also is one of the only D-SLR cameras that uses widely available AA or CRV-3 lithium batteries, making it inexpensive to replace batteries.

There is hardly any excuse not to own a digital SLR camera these days. Prices are falling fast, and there are now digital SLR cameras available for any level of user knowledge, and just about any budget.

[Press Release]

Samsung has unveiled the NX10, a new camera that departs from the conventional SLR design by doing away with the mirror so it can have a smaller body, but retaining the ability to change lenses just like DSLRs.

More importantly, it retains the larger APS-C sized image sensor used in most DSLRs, unlike the smaller sensors of the Micro Four Thirds cameras it is competing against like the Panasonic GF1 and the Olympus PEN.

The Samsung NX10 packs 15.1 megapixels (14.6MP effective) and can shoot 720p movies. Backside, it sports a 3-inch AMOLED display screen.

The NX10 continues a trend among camera manufacturers to veer away from the traditional DSLR design towards more compact, mirror-less interchangeable lens system cameras. The NX10 will be on display during the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show, January 7-10, in the Samsung booth #11026 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

[Via: Samsung USA]

One of the biggest and most successful consumers electronics company in the world, Samsung has unveiled its latest contender in a long line professional photography cameras. The all new Samsung NX10 is the first of its kind in the company’s NX series and will feature an impressive 14.6 mega pixel interchangeable lens, with the capability of capturing videos in high definition at 30 frames per second.

The all new NX10 is quite streamlined and much less bulky than the traditional DSLR cameras and with the mirror box being taken out of the NX10, the device becomes more efficient and easy to carry around. Samsung has also done away with the conventional view finder and has incorporated an AMOLED screen that would enable users to take clear and vibrant photographs. The NX10 is also composed of an electronic view finder (EVF) that has an in built proximity sensor, which allows he camera to save power, as the the sensors, switch off the LCD screen, the moment EVF is in use.

Along with the NX10, Samsung has also announced the launch of three different lenses for the camera that have been designed and developed to help users capture the perfect moment. The first lens built specifically for Samsung NX10 is the 18mm-55mm optically stabilized lens, that comes as part of the package. The second lens is the 50mm-200mm stabilized lens, that would be essential for the devices, especially is the users are taking optically stabilized shots, a feature that is missing from the NX10. The third lens is a 30mm prime lens.

My Nintendo DS by pbrigitte zombuki

Video games and video game systems are quite complicated. Many people likes to play games. But if you can't devote a lot of time or you aren't born with an ingrain video game skill, most games are just too hard for the normal adult person.

Knowing all of this, I was a little reluctant to buy a Wii by Nintendo. I saw the ads on the television (plus the one that my local Wal-Mart plays continuously back in the electronics department). The machine looked so interesting. My family and I could actually get up off of the sofa to play these games. We could get exercise and have fun.

But could looks be deceiving? Would it be that easy for my husband and I to play it?

We gambled. We went on Ebay, found a great deal, a week later the Wii arrived at our doorstep. (Our local stores are only getting few Wii systems in stock at a time and they sell out quick. My hubby hates to wait.)

It was easy to set up? Okay, that was no feat. We also easily set up our Playstation 2 and our Xbox machines. That doesn't mean we can play the games.

The first thing, we did was input the date and time. Again, this was easy.

Now the fun part began. We got to create our Mii characters. Mii's are characters in which we can use to play our Wii games. You can give them names, choose their sex, hair color, put hats on them, give them beards, choose their hair style and dress color. That part was fun and I found my finished Mii to be adorable.

After that we put in the Wii sports game that came with the Wii machine. For those who do not know anything about the Wii system, it comes with one game disk. (Imagine that, a free game!). This game is called Wii sports. It includes, bowling, baseball, tennis, boxing and golf.

A little secret here, I found that placing the receiver that picks up the electronic outputs from the remote (okay, I know this isn't the techno terms. I am not a gamer and I know real gamers won't be reading this piece anyway) a little higher than my television set, helped me to use the remote better, especially at the main menu. I had problems getting the little finger (the onscreen cursor) to appear. I placed the receiver on top of the entertainment center that houses my television set. It was only a couple extra inches, but like I said, it helped.

The first game we played was bowling. Guess, what it was pretty easy even for us. Okay, it took me game two to really get the hang of how the receiver worked. I did realize speed does matter. If you move your arm too slowly, your ball will creep down the bowling path. And another thing, you don't have to swing hard. You aren't actually holding the bowling ball. That remote weighs practically nothing. Once you catch on how to swing and hold and then release button B, you will have no problem with bowling.

Tennis on the other hand is a little bit more challenging. It does feel a lot like playing the real game. They say you should hold the remote as you would a tennis racket. They are right. It helps. I am better on my right side in the game, just like I am in real life. (I am right handed).

Baseball, is a lot like tennis. Golf, is a little more challenging that bowling. But I have to admit, I found it a tad boring (as I do in real life).

As for the boxing, still haven't tried it. Not my cup of tea. It does look like it could be challenging, though.

Now for you people who are like my husband and I here are a few more little tips, I have learned so far.

1. If you want to play GameCube games you can. (Isn't that nice of Nintendo?). But you will have to buy a game cube remote and if you want to save your progress you need a game cube memory card.

2. If you want to use the internet options. Yes, there are plenty of them. You can use them with dial up, but they are s-l-o-w. As for downloading the older Nintendo games, (I wish I could, but alas stuck with dial up), I don't think you can with dial up. But I won't swear to it. I have heard you can still get the latest updates and weather information.

Weather information? Yes, I realize I forgot to add all the cool internet options you have with your Wii. You can hook it up to your computer. Seems most people are usually a wireless connector to do this.

When you contact to the internet, you can surf the internet, some. You can find out the local weather, you can email your other Wii friends, and communicate on the Wii message boards. I can't tell you a great deal about this, because of my dial up situation. But from what I read on some of the game sites, it sounds like the internet options is one reason people are loving the Wii.

As for me, I will continue playing our Wii sports, our older Game Cube games and eagerly await their new game's arrival, Wii Play (billiards, fishing and table tennis, plus six other games is on this game, plus it comes with an extra remote).

Am I glad that I bought a Wii, yes. I am thrilled the made a game system easy enough for me.

But for you gamers and want to be gamers, don't worry they have loads of games coming out and a few all ready out, that looks pretty hard. So you can still beat us who were born without that video gaming gene.

Canon has posted a firmware update for its latest professional DSLR, the EOS-1D Mark IV. Firmware version 1.0.6 enhances autofocus tracking performance of the camera in specific circumstances. The firmware is available for immediate download from Canon's website.

Click here for more information and to download firmware v1.0.6 for Canon EOS 1D Mark IV

A frequent concern about shooting to a heavily-compressed digital format—something the DV Rebel often finds herself doing—is the degree to which the footage will be “color correctable.” Will the shots fall apart when subjected to software color grading? Or will you be able to work with the footage as fluidly as you tweak your raw stills in Lightroom?

It’s a valid concern. The movies that the current crop of HDSLRs shoot are highly compressed. This compression is perceptual, meaning that it takes advantage of visually similar colors and shapes, and represents those regions with less accuracy than the detailed and varied parts of the image. This makes perfect sense, but often in color grading one seeks to enhance color contrasts—to make a face pop off a similarly-colored background for example—and so you may well create high contrasts between colors that were once nearly identical, and as such were given short shrift by the camera’s compression.

You might have noticed a similar phenomenon in audio. An low-bit-rate MP3 that sounds decent enough can suddently sound awful after even a tiny amount of EQ. Another case of perceptual compression limiting your options.

While you will never find as much data and detail in your HDSLR video as you do in that same camera’s raw stills, the H.264 movies created by the Canon 7D, 5D and 1D Mark IV will withstand some massaging in post. Here are some tips (similar to those found in greater detail in The DV Rebel’s Guide) to help you get the best results.

  • Shoot flat. If you read Flatten your 5D, you know that I am a proponent of setting up a “flat” Picture Style using the camera’s built-in controls. The same settings I specced out for the 5D Mark II apply to the 7D and 1D Mark IV as well, although with the 7D I’m less likely to use Highlight Tone Priority, as this setting can increase shadow noise, and the 7D is not as noise-free as the other Canon HDSLRs.
  • Chose WB wisely. Use a white balance preset that gives you as nuetral an image as possible. Shooting with an incorrect white balance reduces your dynamic range, because you wind up with an image that’s prematurely blown-out in one color channel, dark and noisy in others.
  • Expose to the right. Make the brightest image you can without clipping something important. A rule-of-thumb considered gospel by many photographers, but our reasoning is a bit different. Yes, we, like the stills guys, wish to avoid excess noise in the shadows, but that’s not our main concern. Remember that term perceptual compression. Dark areas of an image get less bits. If you underexpose, you’ll have to brighten the image in color correction, and you’ll reveal all kinds of nastiness the camera thought you’d never see.
  • Do denoise. It doesn’t really matter what denoising software you use, but use it. When you carefully and subtly denoise your footage, you rebuild your pixels anew, which is especially nice when you follow the next tip:
  • Work at high bit-depths. If you start with an 8-bit image and do a gentle de-noise, you’re blending pixels values together to create new colors. Although there’s no such thing as something for nothing, doing this at a higher bit-depth means those new colors have massivly more gradations than the original image. Your subsequent color work will hold up much better.
  • Sharpen last. Your flat Picture Style removed the camera’s built-in sharpening. Add your own at the very last step. The amount you use will vary depending on the output medium, so test test test.

By folllowing these guidelines you can make good-looking shots even better with color correction. But what about a shot that isn’t so great to start with? Turns out there’s hope. Below is a 7D shot that I grabbed in an uncontrolled situation. In my haste, I underexposed, and used the “cloudy” white balance when I probably should have used tungsten. But with a little denoising, careful analysis of the colors in the image, and a Colorista Power Mask, I was able to rescue this shot.

Yes, you can color correct your HDSLR footage, and you should. Color correction can make a good shot great, and in a pinch, put an unusable shot back in the game.

It’s about time someone came out with a four battery charger for the Canon LP-EP6 batteries. So far nobody has. When I finish a day’s job with my cameras I have a row of single chargers to charge my batteries. It’s messy, especially when I travel with them.

I have come across the Delkin dual charger which is certainly better than what I currently use. It charges two batteries simultaneously, tells you how much left there is to charge and is pretty cheap….about $50 gets you a dual charger and two plates. The charger can charge all sorts of different camera’s batteries so you need to make sure you get the plates for the EP6 batteries.

Certainly not the most exciting product review, but really useful for me and I am sure many others out there who have a lot of batteries that all need charging at the end of the day…now all we need is for Delkin or someone else to make a 4-way charger…Overall, well made and a nice price (especially in the US) and it includes a car charging lead too.

I bought my ones from warehouseexpress.com in the UK for £35 plus a tenner for two Canon EP6 plates. Everything costs more here!

Oh, one more thing…the Delkin will charge the official Canon batteries and the third party ones no problem. Whereas the official Canon charger can only charge official Canon batteries. Big downside to 3rd party batteries is they cannot communicate with the camera properly so you have no idea how much juice is left in them…never great.

PlayStation 3 Slim: The Rise is On

Regarded by many as the most technologically advanced console on the market, the PlayStation 3 is still the console for serious gamers. Games developers are still grappling with the challenge of making the most of the PlayStation 3's processing power, but some of the games on this list bring to the screen graphical detail and sophisticated gameplay the like of which have never been seen before. These are the ten games we think you would do well to consider buying or borrowing. In no particular order.

>Civilization Revolution (2k Games): This game has been around in one form or another for 18 years, and this latest version is what its creator Sid Meier says is “the one I wanted to make”. An engrossing world-domination simulation, Civilization Revolution takes the series to new levels of graphical brilliance and gameplay. This console version removes some unnecessary complexities, and concentrates your mind on the idea the addictive challenge of guiding your clan from a bunch of ancient warriors to a powerful global force.

>Midnight Club: Los Angeles (Rockstar): The fourth installment in the Midnight Club series contains some of the most detailed cars ever seen in computer games. This highly regarded, immensely exciting urban racing game is packed with fantastic locations and beautiful cars. It's also a difficult enough challenge for you to have to go through many, many hours of gameplay. The main protagonist in the game, known as “Player”, is asked by various shady characters to go on missions which, when completed, earn him a reputation and money.

>Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction (Sony): Although this is the seventh adventure for the loveable alien duo, this is the first time they have made an appearance on the PlayStation 3. An epic sci-fi adventure, the plot may not be as involving as some other games, but the controls of the game are perfectly tuned and there's too much action going on for you to want to worry about the plot. The richly textured galaxy scenes and the buddy-buddy wise-cracking between the unlikely heroes makes this an all-round entertainer.

> Mirror's Edge (EA): This underrated action thriller has an engrossing storyline and imaginative setting. It's an innovative and highly stylised chase game that brings a new physicality to the first-person perspective, and it has the kind of cinematic style found in the best films. Mirror's Edge may find a larger audiences if future versions involve more gameplay, as one of the reasons why it was underrated was because it's possible to finish it in a few days. But if you're looking for something won't take forever to get to the end, this game is for you.

>Red Faction - Guerrilla (THQ): This well designed third-person sci-fi blaster has the kind of superficial storyline that many gamers find interesting if they think about it, but there's too much going on to be able to think too deeply. The action scenes are right up there with the best games released in recent years. Set amid a bloody revolution on the planet Mars, the destructive environments are incredible fun, as are the amazingly powerful weapons.

>Valkyria Chronicles (Sega): This cleverly devised, popular game is set up as a deep, tactical role-playing scenario-based strategy challenge, and if you're not familiar or have never played the Final Fantasy series, you will find this a real eye opener. Set on a warring continent not unlike 1930s Europe, you play the part of a meek and mild engineer who sees the war unfold while behind enemy lines. The story of oppression and honour is surprisingly involving, and will have you engrossed for many days.

>inFamous (Sony): It may not have enjoyed the mega-success that it expected when it released this game, but Sony has at least shown again that it can make games that have an interesting storyline and involve great action. A massive explosion hits the fictional Empire City, and the character that you control finds that he has super powers as a result. So, inevitably, battle a variety of deadly comic book-style villains. It's an intriguing sci-fi romp and is one of a new generation of open-world action adventures.

>Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Tecmo): As with most games that require some time to learn the controls for the fight system, your efforts will be rewarded with precise and exciting gameplay. The fictional story involves your character, a Ninja, who has to recover a sword and avenge the massacre of his clan by the evil Vigor Empire. Brutal combat scenes pepper the whole game and the weapons are more powerful than you expect and the moves are more extravagant than you thought they would be.

>Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (Ubisoft): Some gamers say this is slightly flawed offering, but hasn't stopped vast hordes of gamers from taking it up and enjoying it all the same. The gamers who appreciate it regard it as an extremely atmospheric Wild West shooter, filled with exciting shootouts, swaggering outlaws and convincing John Ford-esque locales. If you're tired of the second world war and the Middle East, it's a mightily refreshing change of pace.

>Condemned II: Bloodshot (Sega Europe): This is a truly gruesome first-person shooter following an alcoholic serious crimes investigator, Ethan Thomas, on the hunt for serial killers in the back alleys of Metro City. According to one reviewer in The Guardian, “If you're after gore, violence and, well, more gore, you really shouldn't miss this. Your children very much should, though.”

The new pocket sized Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam weight high definition capability will appeal to vacationers who prefer to “travel light”. This diminutive camcorder weighs in at pnly ten ounces. it has an ultra portable body measuring just 1.3 inches wide by 4.7 inches tall by 2.5 inches deep. It is full featured camcorder that can record 1920×1080 HD video and 4 megapixel digital photos directly to Sony Memory Stick Pro duo or Pro Duo Mark2 media card. Its size and full recording capability makes it the worlds smallest full HD camcorder.

The HDR-TG1 record in AVCHD format, which is the new standard for high definition camcorders. Although capable of producing glorious picture quality, AVCHD does have a downside if you are interested in editing your footage. Because AVCHD footage is so large, even performing minor tweaks and adjustments can be very taxing or even downright impossible and all depending on the potency of your computer. A weak desktop PC or a less that stellar laptop will result in numerous setbacks if you plan on venturing into the post production phase.

The HDR-TG1 was clearly a notch below the rest of the field when it came to sharpness. Even in bright light, none of its images had the crispness of the others Sonys or the comparable models from Canon or Panasonic. In low right, the HDR-TG1 also lagged behind. It produced a fuzzy image, a significant amount of noise and didn’t reproduce colors very accurately.

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010

The game-obsessed tween will play games at any given chance, when left to his own devices. Gaming is like a job for game-obsessed tween, and he wants to work for everyone. One hand-held game system is not enough, and neither is one game console device. The game-obsessed tween wants the newest and latest of every available system, accessory, and game.

Because the various video game platforms are not interchangeable, the game-obsessed tween who wants a particular game needs the right video game console to play it. This holds true for stationary video game consoles as well as hand-held video games.

Ideally, we'd like to buy the game-obsessed tween some books, some board games, or any toy that does not involve batteries or electricity. However, that is not what the game-obsessed tween wants during the holiday season.

It may take the efforts of the entire family, including extended family members, to get in on the action and satisfy the game-obsessed tween's wish list.

Top Ten Gift Ideas for the Game-Obsessed Tween

1. Wii by Nintendo.

Nintendo Wii will not only “revolutionize how people play games” but it will be a console for the whole family due to the information and entertainment channels. Good luck getting the Wii away from the game-obsessed tween once you have it home. The Wii software will feature some favorite classic characters including Zelda and Mario. Nintendo Wii release date is November 19. 2006. Retail price: $249.

2. PlayStation 3 by Sony.

The game-obsessed tween boy already has PlayStation and PS2, but guess what's out just in time for the holidays? PlayStation 3, like Wii has gone vertical, to easily integrate with existing home entertainment equipment. The PS3 will come in two different models, 20GB and 60 GB and will support Bluetooth wireless controllers. Both models are “backwards compatible” which means the PS3 willplay PS and PS2 games. PlayStation 3 release date is November 17, 2006. Retail price: $499 (20GB), $599 (60GB).

3. Nintendo DS Lite by Nintendo.

Nintendo DS Lite is a two-screened hand-held video console game that the game-obsessed tween boy loves. In fact, he probably abandoned his GameBoy for the Nintendo DS Lite. The Nintendo DS Lite is available in white, black and pink for the game-obsessed tween boy's sister. Retail price of the Nintendo DS Lite. about $130.

4. Nintendogs by Nintendo.

If your game-obsessed tween boy does not already have Nintendogs: Dachshund & Friends for Nintendo DS ($29.99 Rated E for Everyone) it may be timeto buy a copy. Bundle it with Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dalmatian ($29.99 Rated E for Everyone) for a happy game-obsessed tween. After all, he doesn't have time to help take care of your “real” dog. Other Nintendogs games for the Nintendo DS: Nintendogs Chihuahua & Friends ($24.99, Rated E), and Nintendogs Labrador Retriever & Friends ($24.99, Rated E).

5. Nintendo DS Game Sticks by Nintendo.

Great stocking stuffers, or as useful but affordable gifts for the game-obsessed tween boy, consider purchasing a set or two of Nintendo DS Game Sticks ($4.99), which serve as a stylus, or game controller. The one that comes with the Nintendo DS will be lost eventually, and you will find pencils disappearing in your house if you do not supply the game-obsessed tween boywith some extra game sticks.

6. Sony Playstation 2 Cordless Action Controller by LogiTech.

Game-obsessed tween boy will have the Sony Playstation 2 Cordless Action Controller fused to their hands before the day is done. With 40 hours of game play (uses 2 AA batteries) and vibrating game action, this comfortable controller will be a huge hit.

7. Mario & Luigi Partners In Time by Nintendo.

Mario & Luigi Partners In Time is a game for Nintendo DS that makes great use of the double screens. Game-obsessed tween boys will enjoy the kooky antics of everyone's favorite video game brothers. Retail price $34.99.

8. Skins for Nintendo DS by Gamer Graffix.

Gamer Graffix Skins for Nintendo DS are basically really cool stickers that the Game-obsessed tween boy can use to decorate, personalize and protect his Nintendo DS. Retail: around $10.

9. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe by Sega for the PlayStation2 & 3.

The Game-obsessed tween boy will enjoy the level of game play amongst the obstacle courses, as well as the mini-games. Retail price: $19.99.

10. Avatar The Last Airbender by THQ for the Nintendo Wii.

Avatar The Last Airbender seems to be this generation's next stage up from their Yu-gi-oh cards. Game-obsessed tween boys will enjoy exploring the Avatar universe and using their bending skills. Release date is November 19. 2006. Retail price: $49.99.

Game-obsessed tween boys will love any game or game-related gift they receive. There are a number of Nintendo DS related gifts on this top ten gift listbecause the Nintendo DS system is one of those hand-held games that typically resides in the over-sized pocket of the game-obsessed tween boys. If you're really not sure which of these 10 ten gifts your game-obsessed tween boys will like, go ahead and ask him. Chances are, when it comes to video games, he's anything but shy.

It looks like Nintendo is ready to dust the cobwebs of Mario’s greener looking brother with a new Luigi’s Mansion game, after Nintendo filed a new trademark for the title.

For those with short memories Luigi’s Mansion started life out as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube. It now looks like Nintendo’s ready to give it a new lease of life.

No word on whether the supposedly new game will arrive on the Wii, DS, or indeed as a WiiWare title but fans of the original are sure to welcome Luigi and his ghost-hoovering antics with open arms and wallets.

Mario Galaxy 2, now this. We’ll bring you more if and when we hear it.
